True Confessions of a "Not-Very-Successful Gnome Liberationist":

Hi! I'm just writing to let you know that I went 'gnoming' in Melbourne, Australia during a friends 21st birthday party. A very long story short, I went and liberated a gnome from a nearby neighbour's garden, and at 10am the next morning, was woken to find the police looking for me. The police asked me to open the trunk of my car (as they had followed a trail of dirt from where the gnome had been taken back to the rear of my car). I opened my trunk and was arrested on the charge of theft!

Two months later, I appeared in front of the magistrates court and pleaded guilty to the theft and took advantage of an opportunity afforded to first time criminal offenders. In the end I survived my charge of 'Theft of a Garden Gnome' and lived to tell the tale.

I wish other gnome liberationists to be careful and assess the situation around their gnoming escapades to make sure they don't get in the same criminal mess that I did!

Goodluck!

A message we've received about TERROR DWARVES:

Hello Weegee,

we were very impressed by your "Missing Gnomes" website. Gnoming is really a serious and rising problem all over the world.

But do you know that the Gnomes stike back?

Since one and a half year I observe the activities of a group of gnomes which calls themeselves "The Terror Dwarfs":

These little fellows are quite nut. In my opinon it's actualy the most dangerous group of garden gnomes. They are religious fanatic and heavy armed.

Actually I recivied two pictures (cause of security reasons I cant tell you the source):

The first Pictures shows the leadership of the terror dwarfs discussing about top secret plans to a build nuclear weapons!!!

And the second Picture was shot by a FBI Investigation last summer: it shows the religious leader of the Terror Dwarfs "Ali the Gun".

Unfortunately the Cops loose Ali. We suppose that Ali retourned to his secret training camp somewhere in the Caucasus.

Cheers

Peter

From an anonymous emailer, we received these photos of a gnome on tour, but no message, so we're not sure if this is an abducted gnome or not. It looks like the Travelocity gnome which you can now buy copies of on the internet...

Update: Turns out the gnome is a regular traveller!

From our friend Dirk at www.sunny16.be in Belgium, we received this email and photo: I'm a big gardengnome lover and also a photographer, and last weekend I was walking in Brussels and I saw a citygnome. He wanted to pose for a photoshoot. If you want to see that picture I took from him, here he is:

Thanks Dirk!

Missing Gnome Attends Steelers Game

From the The Sun News in Myrtle Beach, Florida (September 25, 2006):

They say Pittsburgh Steelers fans travel well, and we know that, but what about the garden gnome who attended the Steelers' home opener?

"Gnomey" the garden gnome, gone missing from Allen Snyder's yard in Morgantown, W.Va., since spring, was spotted at the Steelers' 28-17 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 10. Snyder received photographic evidence in the mail, a picture of "Gnomey" standing next to a yellow-and-black Steelers Terrible Towel.

Snyder doesn't know who stole his gnome but suspects it might be one of his prank-loving friends.

He has received letters from "Gnomey," including one with a photo of the lawn ornament in the back of a police car asking for bail money.

Given that experience, "Gnomey" is rumored to be next headed to a Cincinnati Bengals home game.

Garden gnomes have increasingly become the target of pranks: it's called "GNOMING" when people supposedly "set free" garden gnomes. The most infamous "gnomers" are France's "Front de Liberation des Nains de Jardins" (Release of the Dwarves of Gardens) and Italy's Movimento Autonomo per la Liberazione delle Anime da Giardino or "MALAG" (literally translated: Independent movement for the Liberation of the Spirits from Garden). Some kidnapped garden gnomes have been sent on trips around the world, photographed at different famous landmarks. The photos of the gnome are then sent back to the owner. (You've seen the movie Amelie.) The Travelocity gnome supposedly has several body guards, lest he end up in Barga!

The photo above was taken at the European Gnome sanctuary in Barga (Italy). The Castle Barga is home to many displaced gnomes.
